I create oil paintings across a range of subjects but I am most drawn to human portraits. There is a certain thrill in knowing that I have successfully captured the emotions and likeness of the subject in my work. 

 

My painting process begins by carefully sketching out my drawing on the canvas. I take my time with this important stage knowing that an accurate drawing lays a solid foundation for the entire painting. Once the drawing is complete, I pre-mix the colors for the painting establishing values and their relationships in advance. This step allows me to approach my painting with clarity and confidence while deepening my understanding of color mixing through practice and observation. 

 

As I paint, I focus on the form and structure of the subject and the ways in which light interacts with it. I strive to create paintings that are not only aesthetically engaging for the viewer, but also personally meaningful and satisfying to me as an artist.
